![]() ![]() I got around this by ensuring that USER.BIN source file on the CD was non-hidden (I removed the hidden property from the file before burning all the UNISCAN files to the Bootable CD). The USER.BIN file (in the DIAG_EXE) directory is a hidden file. ![]() The cause of this is that the XCOPY command used to copy all the UNISCAN files from CD to the RAMDRIVE on bootup wasn't copying any hidden files. If the a hidden USER.BIN file is missing when UNISCAN is started, it will create a new hidden demo-mode USER.BIN file and will then only run in DEMO mode. The presence of the USER.BIN file (in the DIAG_EXE) directory when the program is run is what causes UNISCAN to run in full mode. I finally managed to resolve my problem with UNISCAN only running in DEMO mode from the Bootable CD. The files and directories are all made writeable during the copy process so it can't be a read-only file access issue.ĭoes anyone know what actually causes UNISCAN to revert to running in DEMO-only mode? The question is, does anyone know why UNISCAN only runs in DEMO mode when using the Bootable CD method? During the boot process, a DOS session is booted, a ramdisk is created and the files are then copied from the CD to the ramdisk. ![]() I want to use a Bootable CD instead of a DOSBOX as I want the software to be portable between machines without having to install DOSBOX on each one. I'm happy and understand that I won't be able to run the software under a command window in Windows XP but this at least proves the software I have does actually run in full mode. I can run UNISCAN from a command prompt session under Windows XP and it runs up fine with the full list of cars and ECU's displayed but obviously gives an error when it tries to talk directly to any COM ports (which is as expected under WinXP). When doing so, the laptop boots up and UNISCAN runs fine but it only seems to run in DEMO mode with just one car and one ECU listed Has anyone been able to get UNISCAN working with a Bootable CD? (see this post and this post). ![]()
